Suddenly, they came upon the clearing and both hid behind a bramble bush before being spotted. "Five pence your Uncle dies during the first blow," Roland whispered.
Klagg grimaced. "My Uncle will win because he is true and Sir Lehan is a thief."
"Quiet, the King speaks."
". . . Neither Sir Lehan nor Halfling Taggen have been able to settle their differences regarding the gold."
"He's a thief!" Uncle Taggen screamed as his bald-headed body squatted up and down in place.
The King held his hand up. "My word is law. The two will do battle this day; man or Halfling, one will fall, one will rise -- for the richer!"
Sir Lehan grabbed his lapels and said, "Let us begin so I can put down this bald Halfling whose ears are bigger than his manhood."
The humans laughed and Klagg looked at his Uncle in trepidation. Sir Lehan was tall, with broad shoulders. He even had to bend to whisper to Arthur, a soldier appointed temporary guardian of the gold.
