Sandra Grossman
Born in 1935. Yes, that makes me 72. Educated in the Detroit public school system, followed by taking classes at Wayne State University. A very long, long career in accounting beginning with being a bookkeeper and ending as Controller for an advertising agency. At 65, widowed with married children, I relaxed by working part time in various jobs and started writing short stories for my own enjoyment.
At 70 I saw the first ad for short story submissions on the net. I was secure enough with my stories to submit the first one. It won Honorable Mention and the next one placed in the top 20 (out of 1,500 entries), so I continued to write and submit. It’s exciting to win and very disappointing to lose, especially when you feel very positive about a story, but I finally learned what is turned down by one editor may be very acceptable by another.
Besides writing short stores I am attempting to write a novel aimed at young adults.
